Suenos: Fair trade medicine

Saving life or improving the quality of life of sick people cannot be balanced with profits...it does not make sense... So how to you fund research in such an environment.

Governments are corrupt. And you can't trust when they will get sold to this corporation or that one.

The dream is to be able to provide affordable medicine to people who needs it. The argument is that drugs for AIDS, say, are expensive because one has to pay for research.

The dream is that we should be able to build a company whose investors are not onvesting for immediate profits but invest to get a voice in the company...to direct where research should happen.

The company is not to be a charity but a strictly not for profit. Extra money is to be invested in research. Medicine developed by this company is to be open sourced. No patenting. Profits or investment can be used to buy patents of critical drugs.

Critical medicine will be sold as cheap as necessary...saving life is important. Non critical drugs can be sold for profits to finance the other parts.

Well that's the dream ....

Who has to live this life ?

THIS article brings back the discussion about why should government legislate against one taking one's life when one cannot look after oneself.

It assumes that one's life should be kept on as long as one can because one can....because mainly there is a reason why one is alive. But what if there is not (look around the mess around us)... Then as an individual i want to live the best life i can but when i can't continue to look after myself i should be able to abrogate it ...

What is quality of life and what is humane ? When in doubt i agree ...fine keep one alive but what if one does not want to live without being able to look after oneself.

Most of us that form part of the 20% of humanity that can read this have had reasonably lucky lives and have good lives comapred to the other 80%. If an individual want to continue to live with a poor quality of then i think its that individual decision but similarly should it not be the individual decision to teminate a good life when its starting to get out of control and need to depend on others extensively. This is not a life that many of us who like some of our independence would want.

Ah Journalists !!!

Its incredible how Journalists have become self-serving, self justifying and self glorifying !

Its incredible how news media have form a cabal and there is no competition except for the odd bloggs.

If there were journalists there would not have been the war in Iraq.
There would not have been the mess in Ivory-Coast and there would be democracy in Guinea Equatorial and Saudi Arabia!
If there were Journalists then the massavre in the great lakes area would not have happened not the one in Darfur.
The nexus between journalists and political power is reminescent of the church and rulers power-grip over people in mediaeval Europe.
In the name of patriotism (and some favor for a partner or family member)...news is filtered and vetted by the government.

And people who can shout or write without pausing are called journalist...Analysis are given at length as long as the cabal of power and news does not lose out. Yes you have to lose a few members just to keep the news going but truly...

Who is this journalist that has resigned because he reported that miners have been found alive and passed the news across the world and got families hopes up just to have their hearts broken....yes he resigned, right ?!!!

Who are those journalists that quit in disgust because they whipped every bit of patriotic sentiment because the world is in danger ...without checking a word of what was being fed to them and now are responsible for 100000 or more tragedies or many more families in sadness...yeah they quit and open their conscience in public, right ?!!!

Or are they just shouting and writing...oh look at me or see how beautifully i write !!! oh i am star ! I am a star....

Sadly enough the era of journalism to spread the news is going to be over because we can't trust. Just as medieval people could not trust their priests to tell them about how the king is ruling (yes there were/are exceptions...but they are just that...exceptions) and we will have to find another way to open up the news and freedom of speech....unless we get better people out there as journalists.
